Martin has hinted often that GoT is about history being doomed to repeat itself. Hence the swirling rings in the opening credits. Pretty sure Martin told them everything and everyone would revert to the beginning. The story and character arcs all become circles. That's why The Hound shoves The Mountain into the fire, Cersei and Jaime are dying together as they were born together, the paranoid Mad Queen avenges the paranoid Mad King which was always her mission and also finishes his orders, The Night King is stabbed in the heart by a little girl again and I'm sure there is and will be more examples.
